I'd think that it would take more metal conductive length to induce the current needed to destroy a firearm or ammo from heat. Moreover, barrels can handle quite a lot of heat. 
Will polymer based firearms fare better? Or will the induced current in a steel barrel generate enough heat to destroy the polymer parts? If the latter, presumably if the polymer portions are stored away from the barrel, you'll retain a functional firearm.
